Buddy Teevens knew quickly he had found a gem when he hired then-unproven Cortez Hankton as wide receivers coach in 2012. After three years on the Dartmouth staff Hankton has seen his profile in the coaching ranks do nothing but rise.
From Dartmouth the onetime NFL wide receiver went on to Vanderbilt. Then it was Georgia, where he helped the Bulldogs with the national championship. He's currently in his second year as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at LSU.
Now his name has been floated as a potential offensive coordinator for Deion Sanders at Colorado. From a story headlined Ten names to watch for Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders and Colorado’s offensive coordinator search (LINK):
Cortez Hankton has been LSU’s wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator since 2022 and was Georgia’s wide receivers coach from 2018 to 2021 while also serving as their pass game coordinator in 2021. He also coached wide receivers at Vanderbilt from 2015 to 2017 and Dartmouth from 2012 to 2014. As a wide receiver for Texas Southern from 1998 to 2002, Hankton set school records for career receiving yards, receiving yards in a season and most consecutive games with a receiving touchdown. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2003 and played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2003 to 2008. Hankton coached alongside Colorado’s director of player personnel, Corey Phillips, at LSU and Colorado defensive ends coach, Nick Williams, at Georgia. He has proven himself to be an effective recruiter of high-level talent throughout his coaching career.
Green Alert Take: Hankton is a New Orleans native and the LSU position brought him back to his home state. It's hard to imagine him leaving after two years for a less-than-stable situation in Boulder but never say never.
Green Alert Take II: One of the fun things I did with BGA a few years back was a Q&A series where I asked coaches questions intended to paint a picture of them outside of football. Among the questions I asked was, "What is your dream car?" I can't remember what kind of car Cortez mentioned but I do remember something else he said: "I own it." Trust me, he was the only coach I talked to who said that. Such is the life of a former NFL player. ;-)

Incoming Dartmouth quarterback Kyle Meier is quoted in a story about his New York high school team playing under the dome at Syracuse Saturday afternoon in the Class A New York State Public High School Athletic Association's championship game. From the story (LINK):
Meier, Whitesboro's Dartmouth College-bound quarterback, has run for 2,262 yards and 36 touchdowns while throwing for 1,801 and 22, and completing 62.4% of his passes; the passing yards are a career high, and he is eight yards short of his rushing total as a junior.

The only new grad transfer portal news so far is defensive lineman Gannon McCorkle tossing his name into the ring and fellow defensive lineman Charles Looes fielding an offer from Liberty.

A little more trivia from Craig Haley. The guru of FCS football lists four schools that led the subdivision with two shutouts apiece. They were Houston Christian, Southern Illinois, Merrimack and an Ivy League school. That Ivy?
Columbia.
The Lions shut out Georgetown, 30-0, in Week Two, and Marist, 16-0, two weeks later. Interestingly, those were the only two shutouts in the Ivy League this fall.

It never came to be but it's fun to imagine the Ivy League having a sister conference in the south. It could have happened if the Magnolia League had blossomed. Tulane, Vanderbilt, Duke and Rice were among the potential members. For a little history lesson, check this out:
Well, we pulled the booties out for Griff the Wonder Dog yesterday. It took some effort to get them on his paws and it was kind of funny watching him high step in them from the living room to the kitchen.
