Closing In On It

The Weather Channel hourly forecast is now calling for 42 degrees with a 36 percent chance of showers tomorrow at kickoff in Hanover. The wind will be 12 mph out of the north/northwest. AccuWeather has it a little warmer (44 degrees) but increases the chance of rain to 69 percent with 21 mph wind out of the northwest (but the conditions should improve as the day goes on).

BGA Overtime will take a look at The Tussle with Brown tonight HERE. (Dartmouth eschewed the indoor practice facility and was out in the rain yesterday to be ready for the potentially adverse conditions.)

At the Sunday team meeting after Harvard’s football varsity clinched at least a share of the Ivy League crown with a last-second field goal at Pennsylvania last weekend, Andrew Aurich posed a question.

If your goal before the season was to share the title with Dartmouth, raise your hand. “Nobody raised their hand,” the first-year coach said. “I said, OK, me too.”

At the conclusion of last night's final full practice of the season, offensive linemen Nick Marinaro and Kyle Brown were honored with the training staff's Hard Nose Award. A 2015 story on the Training & Conditioning website explained that the award goes to a . . .  (LINK):

. . . senior who has overcome a major injury or series of injuries and has returned to have a significant impact on the field.

Along with overcoming injuries, the Hard Nose Award recipients must have followed the athletic training staff’s rehabilitation instructions. The criteria also include not disregarding or embellishing injuries and not lobbying on your own behalf or for a friend in order to influence the award’s outcome.

Asked after practice about this year's winners, Dartmouth coach Sammy McCorkle said:

"You can't say enough about Kyle Brown and 'Sauce.' When the award was created they are the kind of guys they were thinking about. The way they fought through injuries and kept battling back is a great example to our younger guys and the rest of the team about how to face adversity. Those two guys did whatever they had to do to get back on the field and this means a lot to them. You heard it in how emotional they were talking about it."

EXTRA POINT

When Mrs. BGA was explaining where we live, her new friend had our house confused with another at the top of our hill. When Mrs. BGA told her we were actually the first house down the hill from that place, the woman responded, "Oh, the one with the old VW bus."

Hearing the made me smile. ;-)
