This And That From Week 10

Last night's BGA Overtime "Six Pack" had a brief mention that the Ivy League presidents will be voting in December on potentially rescinding the playoff ban for their football teams. (Don't hold your breath.) There are thoughts about who would represent the Ivy League if just one of this year's tri-champions could go on to the postseason, and why. (LINK)

Also in the piece: Was Jackson Proctor really Dartmouth's "throwing quarterback?" And thoughts about a season in which the Big Green won games by 2, 3, 1, 4 and 3 points in consecutive weeks. In the heat of the battle it was almost lost on me that the nailbiters lined up like that.

Click through for some additional stats from Saturday's game against Brown and a few more thoughts from Big Green coach Sammy McCorkle and his players after the Ivy League championship-clinching win in the final BGA Overtime entry for 2024.

The daily BGA site you are perusing now will continue, although it will go dark this weekend as we battle the weather and head out to Happy Valley to watch That Certain B1G Team try to close out the regular season at 11-1 with a win over Maryland.

Dartmouth players earned Ivy League recognition for their play in Week 10:

Somehow Washington is listed as co-defensive player of the week with Yale's Abu Kamara and also on the honor roll, where he is joined by Big Green kicker Owen Zalc. (LINK)

Harvard clung to a spot in the Stats Perform Top 25 this week despite losing its finale to Yale and Dartmouth gets a mention. All three Ivy League champions are in the "receiving votes" category in the FCS Coaches Poll:

Yale coach Tony Reno has been mentioned in the UMass job search but is believed to be the prime target at Rice. Find a story HERE.

#

Author John Feinstein has a guest piece in the Washington Post that begins this way:
It is my guess that most college football fans missed the best story of the weekend. Oh,
sure, two of the sport's remaining unbeaten teams — Army and Indiana — were beaten
handily, leaving Oregon as the nation's only team without a loss. Alabama lost for an
unheard-of third time. Penn State escaped Minnesota by a point to keep its playoff hopes
intact.

All important stories. But none compared with this . . .

The headline, of course, gives the story away: Columbia's Ivy League football title was 63 years in the making. Find the full  Post story HERE

Did I mention I'm giving up trying to keep track of Dartmouth and Ivy League players entering the portal as grad transfers? There are just too many. (Prominent undergrads moving on are a different story.)

If you are interested to see which graduating seniors are hoping to continue playing and what offers they receive, you can find a lot of that information HERE. All I'll add at this point is graduating Big Green running back Q Jones appears to be getting a lot of attention from mid-level FCS schools, and Brown corner Isaiah Reed is reeling in his share of FBS offers.

EXTRA POINT
It's a dull and gray morning here today, but yesterday an unexpectedly brilliant blue sky set off the view of snowy Mount Moosilauke as seen through the windows here at the BGA World Headquarters:
