EXTRA POINT
I saw a commercial yesterday that made me think of this line from the film Dr. Strangelove:
Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream!
The commercial was for a game called Monopoly App Banking, which is described by Hasbro as an . . .
". . . easy to play board game for kids. Players enjoy classic Monopoly gameplay on the board, but the app is the Banker and Bank. No cash or counting!"
OK, two things.
First, maybe, just maybe, counting is actually good for kids so one day they may be calculate change at their first job instead of needing the register to tell them to give $3.75 back to the customer who handed them $5 for a $1.25 fountain drink.
And second, do we really have to have a gosh-darn app for every single thing? To which I say:
It's Monopoly, Mandrake, children's Monopoly!
