Monday Catch-Up

The weekly BGA Overtime What They Did & What They Said column went up last night HERE. Come back tonight for the usual six-pack of thoughts and observations Your Mileage May Vary. Coverage continues the OT tomorrow with The Optimist and The Pessimist. Wednesday will see a bonus story this week, with the Fearful Forecast going up on Thursday and the Harvard preview capping a busy week on Friday. After a late, late Saturday night game story – it's a 3 p.m. game meaning we won't get home until 10 at the absolute earliest – it all starts again on Sunday.

Editor's Note: Given that Harvard is probably the busiest week for BGA and BGA Overtime readership, this is a good time to thank everyone who has encouraged me to keep this site going. It seems whenever my enthusiasm begins to wane and I wonder if all the work I put in is worth it, I hear from a few of you – I did last week – and it charges my batteries. So thank you again and keep reading!

I had a chance to catch up briefly with Jake Novak of the Columbia Roar Lions blog at the game, which was great. He titled his podcast and written recap of Friday's game Hanover Humiliation. Find his work HERE.

The author of the Ivy League segment of an Underdog Dynasty column headlined FCS Football: The Sunday After - Overreactions to Week 9 might want to take another look at the standings above. For some reason, he all but wrote off Yale, Penn and Princeton in this blurb (LINK):

Harvard, Dartmouth Winner Will go to Playoffs

It’s looking more and more like next week’s showdown in Boston between Harvard and Dartmouth will end up being the de-facto Ivy League championship. The Crimson are one of just six unbeaten FCS squads still out there at 6-0 while the Big Green have just one loss. Harvard is 3-0 in the Ivy while Dartmouth is 2-1. Whoever wins that game will have a fairly commanding lead in a conference that doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of other contenders right now. The Ivy League champion, of course, will participate in the playoffs this year meaning that Saturday’s contest might as well be a play-in game.

Green Alert Take: Seriously? If Dartmouth wins, Penn knocks off Brown, Yale beats Columbia and Princeton wins at Cornell, there will be a five-way tie at the top of the standings. And every one of the one-loss Ivy teams, except probably Dartmouth, can expect to be favored this week.

Here's the list of the last remaining undefeated FCS football teams:

North Dakota State (8-0)

Montana (7-0)

Harvard (6-0)

Tennessee Tech (7-0)

Tarleton State (9-0)

Lehigh (8-0)

EXTRA POINT

Robo the robotic vacuum cleaner has been acting up. We've had it for a few years now, and with the exception of having to replace the machine's rechargeable battery a couple of years ago, it's been working flawlessly. Over the last few weeks, however, Robo has occasionally ignored the schedule programmed into it, choosing instead to set off on its own at inopportune times. Beyond that, some days it simply quits working in the middle of its daily routine.

I fiddled with it last night and we'll see if those issues have been resolved. I'm not optimistic because a little light on top that is usually orange has turned red, which the instruction manual tells us indicates an error. Unfortunately, Robo's behavior doesn't match up with any of the error codes. Maybe I'll pull the battery, let it sit for a minute, and then put it back if last night's fiddling didn't work.

Robo has been a very dependable soldier, particularly in the never-ending battle with Griff the Wonder Dog's fur. Fingers crossed that the machine marches on, but if it doe not, we will offer it our thanks and bring in a replacement.
