Acting Dartmouth head coach Sammy McCorkle introduced best-selling author John Feinstein to the Big Green team at the end of Saturday's practice. Feinstein is in the early stages of working on a book about a season in Ivy League football and while watching practice we had a nice chat on the sidelines about Dartmouth and the Ancient Eight. He intends to be at a different Ivy League game each week this fall and in his brief remarks to the team encouraged the players to be comfortable having him around, to say hi and then go about their regular business. Following the practice he met individually with a half dozen players in the football offices.

EXTRA POINT
Mrs. BGA and I were on our hiking trail a couple of days ago and heard something that made us smile. It was a hiker wearing a bear bell to ward off Yogi and Boo-Boo.
I probably hike that trail upwards of 300 times a year and I've never once seen or heard a bear. Now, when we lived in rural Hanover, Griff the Wonder Dog and I came around a bend on our trail up Moose Mountain one time and found ourselves face-to-face with a bear, but after a quick standoff it scurried away. But in the four years I've been hiking on my trail here the only animal that ever spooked me was a porcupine that I almost ran into one time jogging on a flat section of trail.
I'm not sure where the bear bell hiker was from, but the guess is he was what the people in these parts tend to call a "flatlander." ;-)
