Thursday News

The local Valley News has a story on Dartmouth's first football practice of the spring and Sammy McCorkle being named the Big Green's acting head coach. There's no update on the condition of longtime head coach Buddy Teevens, hospitalized in Florida following last month's bicycle accident. (LINK)

Not on Memorial Field for Tuesday's football practice was freshman wide receiver Ivan Hoyt, and for a very good reason. Hoyt was the starting pitcher Tuesday for the Big Green baseball team in Tuesday's game against UMass Lowell on the adjacent Biondi Park.

The rare two ball-sport athlete, Hoyt is an infielder/pitcher for Dartmouth. He threw two innings against UMass Lowell, striking out three and allowing one earned run in his third appearance on the mound for the Big Green, but getting tagged with the loss when the home team could not come back.

Hoyt has played in 15 games for Dartmouth this spring with 13 starts. He has three doubles, one home run and six runs batted in over 48 plate appearances with two stolen bases in three attempts. Here's his first collegiate homer:

Limited to four games last fall, Hoyt battled an injury as a wide receiver but did kick off 12 times with four touchbacks. Find his football bio HERE and his baseball bio HERE.

Former Dartmouth tight end and captain Robbie Mangas '22, had 16 catches for 141 yards last fall as a grad transfer for the University at Buffalo, which capped its season with a win in the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.. With his college eligibility used up he's now serving as a "graduate student assistant," while continuing to work toward a shot at pro football.

Mangas participated in the Buffalo Pro Day and was the subject of a Pro Prospect Interview by The Gridiron Crew HERE.

Check out his Buffalo highlights:

Buffalo has been good to the Mangas family of Chantilly, Va., by the way.

Mangas has been joined at Buffalo by his older brother DJ, who has been named the Bulls' offensive coordinator after stints at LSU, with the Carolina Panthers and at Willliam & Mary among other stops. (LINK)

EXTRA POINT
The forecast for Hanover has the temperature possibly getting to 66 degrees this afternoon. That's warmer than it was any day during our recent two-week vacation to San Diego – and the forecast calls for temps in the high 70s next week. I may have to break out the flip flops again. ;-)
