More On New QB Commit

Welcome to June! One month from today we can say, “Preseason camp starts next month." ;-)

#

The Asbury Park Press has a story on Dartmouth commit Jack Cannon, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound dual-threat quarterback BGA posted about earlier. From the story headlined, The Shore’s top Class of 2026 quarterback announces college decision (LINK):

He blossomed as a junior under the offense of first-year head coach Noel Kavanagh this past fall, accounting for 37 total touchdowns as an elite dual threat quarterback who reached the rare feat of passing for over 2,000 yards in addition to rushing for over 1,000 yards.

And . . .

"It was really about the degree, because going to an Ivy League school is a blessing," Cannon said. "When I visited, I just knew it was for me. It was also the coaching staff. I loved all the coaches. They're all down to earth, they're great coaches. And I know I'll get developed there and will get a really good degree."

And . . .

Jack was a legacy player at Holmdel that followed in the footsteps of his father Scott as well as uncles Gary and John Cannon, all of whom played Division I football in college. John went on to play nine seasons in the NFL as a defensive end with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Still no official release out of Dartmouth about the recruiting class that will arrive in August. Here’s the list of commits who still have one year of high school football left:

• DB Tayegan Briskey, 6-1, 180, West Boca Raton HS/Florida

• QB Jack Cannon, 6-2, 210, Holmdel HS/New Jersey

• DL/TE Will Maloof, 6-5, 210, St. Peter’s Prep/New Jersey

• OL Mikey McMahon, 6-4, 290, Bergen Catholic HS/New Jersey

Two points. First, determining hometown information on players who attend parochial school or private schools, or who transfer while in high school can be dicey, so instead of the hometown the list includes just the state.

And second, this is hardly an exhaustive list. There might easily be a handful more still unreported. Corrections and additions aren't just welcomed, but are encouraged. If you have updated information, feel free to pass it along via email HERE.

EXTRA POINT

From our Vermont hillside home it is a shorter drive to the Canadian border than it is to Concord, N.H. That being the case Mrs. BGA and I occasionally hop in our car and head due north to Quebec to hear a little French. Sitting on the northern end of beautiful Lake Memphremagog, the town of Magog is a favorite destination. Heres a look down the lac from our visit the other day:

On our way home, we took a two-minute detour to check out the famous library in Derby Line, Vt., which straddles the Canadian border. It was late in the day so we didn’t stop in, but we probably will the next time we pass through. Here’s a pic I shot:

The sign reads, “Haskell Library Card Holders Only. All others will be arrested and face prosecution and/or removal from the United States. Visitors must enter the United State via an open Port of Entry.”

And below the Do Not Enter . . .

Here’s a short, and relatively recent report on the unique library:
