Signs of Spring Include a Prospectus

Three signs spring is coming: Most of the snow is gone down in the valley (although not up here on the mountain); Dartmouth women's lacrosse played a home game yesterday on the turf at Scully-Fahey Field and no one was freezing (although I started to wonder about former fullback Charles Ganske's decision to wear shorts to the game as the shadows lengthened); and the first of the Ivy League football prospectus (prospectii?) is out. To read a little about Yale's prospects for the 2006 season, click here. ... There was a Green Alert link some time back about a former Harvard football recruit who transferred to Minnesota to play basketball. Crimson writer Michael James does a nice job in this story about Zach Puchtel, who plans to transfer back to Harvard to graduate. There's something about transferring like this simply to play a sport that rubs me the wrong way, but the story by perhaps the best of the Ivy League student writers is a worthwhile read. It also offers some insights into how Harvard uses its junior varsity programs. ... I'm meeting with Buddy Teevens late this morning for another project. Any interesting tidbits I learn will be posted here over the next few days.
