There has been much talk lately about restructuring Ivy League football so that the champions would be eligible to compete in the Division I-AA playoffs. My message to the gentlemen deciding the future of the Ancient Eight down in Princeton is simply to first take a look at baseball. Now, it's true there's been drum banging (in the Ivy Council and on this site at least) about making football eligible to go on to the playoffs, but you can rest assured the Ivies aren't going to have a two-division playoff to determine which team to send to the NCAA's. If they can't get an 11th game and they can't get clearance to go to the playoffs they certainly aren't going to get the OK for an 11th game to go to the playoffs. There's been no talk about that, and to suggest it's being considered would be silly.
I don't subscribe to the Packer Insider and I rather suspect Jay Fiedler won't be subscribing anytime soon. Here's how a columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel site answered a question during an on-line chat:
Q: Have you heard how Rodgers is progressing in McCarty's quarterback school? If Favre retires, what free agent QBs are out there to potentially back-up Rodgers?
A: No, but it doesn't matter what he does in quarterback school. What'll matter is what he does on the field when he gets a chance to play. What's left as far as quarterbacks. I think Kerry Collins is still out there. Anthony Wright. Jay Fiedler. Jeff Blake. In other words, garbage. If Favre doesn't sign and Rodgers isn't ready, the season will be a total disaster. It might be anyway.
