Updated Monday Update

There's a terrific Q&A feature on UNH wide receiver David Ball on the Sports Network I-AA page. Ball needs just six TD catches next fall to break Jerry Rice's I-AA record of 50. Hmm. Dartmouth will be UNH's third game of the season so it's not outside the realm of possibility it could happen Sept. 23 at Memorial Field. It probably doesn't help his cause that UNH is opening at Northwestern, but he could rack up some serious numbers the next week when Stony Brook comes to Durham. UNH, by the way, is about to start spring practice. (Story) Ball could also break Jerry Rice's all-time record for 100-yard receiving games this fall.

Word arrived in the Green Alert "in box" today that the annual Dartmouth Friends of Football Golf Outing is slated for Saturday, June, 17 at Hanover Country Club. For more information, call Curt Oberg at 603-646-2467 or e-mail him at curt.oberg@dartmouth.edu. I had a chance to see some old friends and make some new acquaintances at the event last year and look forward to the day again this spring. ... Among those in attendance at the outing last year was quarterback Brian Mann, who began this season as the starter for the Los Angeles Avengers. Battling a foot suffered in his first game, Brian eventually lost the starting job to Sonny Cumbie who was touted as an Arena League rookie of the year candidate at the end of the story about yesterday's 63-49 loss to Las Vegas Gladiators. ... Former Dartmouth coach John Lyons has gone from drawing up defensive schemes to stop opponents like the Holderness School as head coach of Kimball Union Academy to trying to stop people like Drew Henson as defensive coordinator for the Cologne Centurions. Lyons' defense limited Henson to 14-of-28 passing for 165 yards yesterday but it wasn't enough to keep the Rhein Fire from taking a 20-10 win. (Story) ... Both Harvard and Yale have had assistant coach movement in the past few weeks but this one deserves special mention. After nine years on the staff at Yale, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Joel Lamb is going over to the enemy, taking the same position at Harvard. ... Today's Daily Dartmouth has an update on the progress of the work upgrading the Dartmouth fitness center. ... Check the main Green Alert site this afternoon for the latest "10 Questions" with an incoming recruit.
