New Wide Receivers Coach

It appears Dartmouth is getting a new wide receivers coach. From a story carried by something called the International News Service, Jarrail Jackson of the Oklahoma Yard Dawgz Arena League team "verified that he currently has no plans to retire despite the beginning of his full-time coaching career as receivers coach at Dartmouth College later this month." ... After seeing that, I dug around for a little information about Jackson, who will turn 30 on the day of the Penn game (Sept. 30). ... Here's his bio on the Yard Dawgz' web page. ... As a senior wide receiver at Oklahoma, he had 54 catches for 659 yards and seven touchdowns, all school records at the time. He broke eight Sooner receiving and return records and still holds the Independence Bowl record with 10 receptions agains Mississippi in 1999. ... He played himself in a movie called Sooner Magic, described by the Internet Movie Database as "a cinematic collage and education into the history surrounding the supernatural power that wouldn't let the Sooners lose." ...

Remember how I suggested the "online chat" with Patriot League players was a terrific idea for that conference's media day? I still think it is, but only if the players are asked good questions and provide interesting answers. How did the players from the two PL teams Dartmouth will play this year (Colgate and Holy Cross) do? You decide. Here's the chat with Colgate quarterback Mike Saraceno and here's the one with Holy Cross linebacker Dan Adams. ... Oh, and to read a feature about star Colgate tailback Jordan Scott, click here.

The Atlantic 10 preseason media/coaches poll is out and it's no surprise what team was a runaway favorite to win:

NORTH
1-New Hampshire (22 first-place votes)
2-Massachusetts (5)
3-Maine
4-Hofstra
5-Rhode Island
6-Northeastern
SOUTH
1-James Madison (17)
2-Richmond (9)
3-DELAWARE (1)
4-William & Mary
5-Villanova
6-Towson

It's been written more than a few times in this space that Dartmouth needs to rework its schedule and hopefully play an intersectional game from time to time. While the majority of I-AA teams are located in the Northeast, the division is growing west of the Mississippi as this story notes. Maybe there's a future opponent mentioned somewhere in this story. ...

The Dartmouth-Cornell Fifth Down game is discussed in this column which, as happens surprisingly often, refers to Dartmouth University.
