Cramer Awaiting His Fate

The American flag and evergreen -- raised yesterday -- symbolize the high point of construction of the new varsity house.
Athletic Director Josie Harper's signature is above a "BT" on the girder celebrating the high point of construction.
The new east stands have two rows of seats in a lower section, a railing and aisle setting that section aside, and then the rest of the seats. According to Coach Buddy Teevens, the temporary cyclone fencing at the top of the stands will be replaced next year with four more rows of seating and a pavilion connecting the top of the stands and the varsity house.
A promising sign for Dartmouth Thursday was the site of punter Brian Scullin back in action. He nailed soaring punts of 51 and 47 yards during limited action.

The news could come at any time. The Carolina Panthers will be cutting the roster from 73 to 53 today and sitting right on the bubble is former Dartmouth tight end Casey Cramer. In last night's preseason finale, the fullback caught two passes for 10 yards and made one tackle (one assist) on special teams. Cramer has yo-yo'd between the Carolina practice squad and the big team for the past two years, but he's not eligible for the practice squad anymore. Carolina coach John Fox made it clear last night that finalizing the roster would be tough: "There are a lot of tough decisions. We have to cut the team from 75 to 53. I respect these young guys for doing what they've done. They've had a successful camp. If it doesn't work out here, those plays on tape become resumes to the other teams."

The only real question on the offensive side for Yale was at quarterback where Matt Polhemus has been named starting quarterback according to the New Haven Register. (The Bulldogs return 10 starters on that side of the ball.) The paper also reports that standout linebacker Lee Driftmier has been lost for the season because of shoulder surgery.

Regarding the recent discipline problems with Ivy football favorite Harvard, Penn coach Al Bagnoli tells the Daily Pennsylvanian: "Going into (the season), if you had to ask me, before all the crazy stuff happened at Harvard, would Harvard have been the top choice?" Penn head coach Al Bagnoli asked. "Most people would have said yes. (After the suspensions) I'mm not sure what's going to happen there."
