As the
Princeton Packet said (with a nod toward both baseball and Ivy League football): "It was good to be a Tiger on Friday." ... Three things became clear in Friday night's 17-3 Princeton win:
- The Tigers (5-0) aren't going to score many points this year
- It won't matter
- Brown (1-4) is down
From the AP story: "After Princeton shut down Brown's explosive offense Friday night, Tigers coach Roger Hughes said it was the best defensive effort he's had in his seven years at the Ivy League school." Just how good a defensive performance was it? Three Brown quarterbacks completed 10-of-30 passes for 116 yards with two interceptions. The running game amassed (better: was held to) 41 yards on 26 carries. Folks, that's 157 yards of total offense for the Bears, who had 453 yards last week against Holy Cross.
It's Homecoming in Hanover and if there's been a nicer Saturday morning at this time of year there can't have been many. Up here on the mountain the sky is as clear and as blue as you will ever see. I'm heading into town early today to check out the atmosphere and maybe squeeze off a few pictures to post tonight or tomorrow.
Green Alert will have the game story and a notes column tonight. I'll also be stringing for a Massachusetts paper, so it will be a busy day.
