"He's an absolute leader by example. He works very hard. He played a lot for us last year, but he has really taken his game to the next level since the end of last year. He worked hard in the weight room and got himself in great shape heading into the season. One of us (that would be me) is too cheap to buy the rest of the story from the newspaper archives, so I can't offer much more.
This story has a picture of Gallagher and says he tied for the team lead with 15 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns last fall. In the season finale he caught the TD pass that sent the game into overtime and made an interception in overtime that iced the win.
Gallagher helped Hun to a 7-2 record. Hun is sending at least seven players to college (link) including one to Cal, one to Washington and one to North Carolina. Gallagher's older brother, Pat, is a 6-foot, 225-pound sophomore defensive tackle for Princeton and his younger brother is at Hun.

NFL Europe camps are about to heat up and I stumbled across this mention of former Dartmouth head coach John Lyons returning to the Cologne Centurions for a third season earlier today:Cologne Centurions - Head Coach David Duggan has completed his staff for the upcoming season: Jeff Filkovski, Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach; Wendell Davis, Tight Ends Coach; Lee Rowland, Running Backs Coach; Don Holmes, Wide Receivers Coach; John Lyons, Defensive Coordinator/ Defensive Backs Coach; Tracy Simien, Defensive Line Coach and Steve Tovar, Linebackers CoachEarlier this week I posted excerpts from Jake Tapper's very interesting Q&A with Dartmouth President Jim Wright that appeared in the most recent Alumni Magazine. In this final excerpt, Tapper asks Wright: "What do you say to alumni who say that you don't value athletics?" Wright's answer:
I said that they're wrong. I say that they're not doing their homework. I would be willing to argue, with the exception of football, that across the board Dartmouth programs are stronger today than they've ever been.To read the rest of the answer (which mostly recounts recent successes in other sports) and the full interview with President Wright, click here.
And for those of you keeping score, the big winter storm that canceled school in much of the Upper Valley yesterday never really hit us. We got a lot of wind, a little snow and even less "wintry mix." Far from the upwards of 20 inches some predicted, we probably received 3-4 inches maximum, although the wind did pile up some impressive drifts.
