We're back from Montreal where we thoroughly enjoyed a four-day vacation.
We did the jet boats on the Lachine Rapids, took in the Biodome next to Stad Olympique and spent hours in the shops (and enjoying the street performers) of historic Old Montreal. Oh yeah, and we had a terrific time watching the Montreal Alouettes play the Calgary Stampeders at Percival Molson Stadium on the McGill University campus.
Overlooking the city skyline, Molson Stadium offers a wonderful setting for a game, particularly a night contest. Although it was disappointing that Anthony Gargiulo '06 was hurt and didn't make the trip, we had a fabulous time north of the border where we often sent to watch the Expos in years past.
Two thoughts about Montreal: It is astonishing how many people up there smoke cigarettes. Maybe it's a city thing, but you couldn't get away from the smoke. The other thing, and maybe this is city stuff as well, but we were all amazed at how many people had piercings in their noses, lips, chins, eyebrows, etc. Call me old-fashioned, but it was kind of hard to look at after a while.
For those of you who fly in for a few Dartmouth games each fall, consider flying to Montreal one time. It's really not that much further from Hanover than Boston and truly is an interesting place to visit. Getting good action pictures in the gloaming with a digital camera can be tough. I'd hoped to get a shot of Anthony Gargiulo, No. 92 in your program, but had to setting for a shot of No. 93, Terrence Patrick, setting up to rush the passer.
The skyline of Montreal is behind the smaller visiting stands. The home stands are high and as steep as any stands you are going to find. It's a great place to watch a game!
Our seats were in the front row behind the helmet. The young man sitting just to the right of the helmet in this pic is actually sitting in our seat. Given the size of the field, the 20-yard end zone and the track, we spent a lot of time watching the action on the replay screen.
