HANOVER -- There are coaches who have a hard time understanding what it takes to be a student-athlete at an Ivy-caliber school.
First-year Dartmouth tight ends coach Lance Clelland isn’t one of them. This is a guy who has walked the walk -- if on the other side of the football street.
No, he didn’t attend Harvard or Princeton, which had him on their radar screens when he was a high school All-America in Maryland in the late 1990s. He chose instead to attend another academic powerhouse, Northwestern, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line and helped the Wildcats to the 2000 Big Ten championship.
