Celebrating A Win

The Daily Dartmouth has a game story from the win over Penn here, but you don't want to miss this picture. ... The Daily Pennsylvanian game story is here with a sidebar on the ruling by the officials on the fourth down call here. ... The DP has another story about the play of quarterback Bryan Walker, who threw a school-record 60 passes against Dartmouth, completing 30 for 266 yards. ...

Next on tap for Dartmouth is a big-time test against a 3-0 Yale team that has had a couple of impressive wins in a row. There have been a few questionable quotes come out of New Haven the past several years but if this New Haven Register story is any indication, it appears the Bulldogs have the Lou Holtz praise-the-opponent thing down cold. Not to disparage Dartmouth's win over Penn in the least, but at this point there's probably a little hyperbole in this statement from Yale senior fullback Joe Fuccillo after a convincing win over Holy Cross: "This was a great win, but we also need to play Dartmouth, which is also a great team, and take that one just as serious as we took this one (Saturday)."

Speaking of quotes, the Brown Daily Herald had a writer follow school president Ruth Simmons for an interesting story about her day at the Brown-Rhode Island football game. There's some amusing stuff in the story including her unhappiness about the lack of junk food at the pregame tailgate, her concerns about the tastefulness of a Brown-URI button, her reaction to the chant, "Ruth-Ruth-Ruth," and her second-guessing of a playcall or two. And then there was this quote, which is as good as it gets from a college president: "I'm all about lacerating the other team."

Former Dartmouth standout Anthony Gargiulo returned to action for the Calgary Stampeders in a 42-9 loss at the BC Lions. Gargiulo, who rotated from the injured list to the practice squad to the active squad, had one tackle. He was a starter in the first several games before leg and ankle injuries sidelined him. ... Casey Cramer, the former Dartmouth All-America tight end, has also been hampered by injury. He was sidelined again this week and has yet to see his first action.
