First Looks At Dartmouth-Holy Cross

The Ivy League previews of this weekend's action are up and you can find the Dartmouth-Holy Cross preview here. ... The Holy Cross game notes for Saturday's contest against the Big Green have been posted here. ...

Dartmouth sophomore safety Peter Pidermann has been named to the Ivy League honor roll after making six tackles (one for a loss) and blocking a punt that was run in for the Big Green's only touchdown last week against Yale. Pidermann was playing in place of injured standout Ian Wilson. ...

The Daily Pennsylvanian notebook from last Saturday's games starts with Yale's Mike McLeod having an "off game" by his standards against Dartmouth -- just 155 rushing yards and one touchdown. ... There's also a roundup of last Saturday's action in the Columbia Spectator. ...

Holy Cross is currently ranked No. 44 in the nation in the Sports Network poll. Yale is 16 while UNH is 13.

With Carolina Panthers' quarterback Jake Delhomme done for the season, Jay Fiedler's '94 name gets tossed out as a veteran the team might want to consider for a backup role in this story. ... If his arm were OK, he'd probably be in the mix. ... It's a tough time for former Dartmouth players in the pros right now. Casey Cramer '04 still hasn't suited up for the Tennessee Titans because of knee and hamstring issues. ... Anthony Gargiulo's '06 promising start with the Calgary Stampeders has been derailed by leg and ankle problems as well. Gargiulo is now listed on the team's practice roster. (His game-by-game stats can be found here.) ... And Derham Cato '05 is no longer on the Toronto Argonauts' roster. ...

Off the field, Dartmouth President James Wright gave his 10th annual talk to the faculty yesterday and it is interesting the different focus the local Valley News and the Daily Dartmouth took on the speech. The Valley News headline: Wright to Faculty: Don't Be Drawn In. Dartmouth President Supports Enlarged Board; Reception Mixed. The Daily Dartmouth report concentrated on Wright's push to make changes to the Sophomore Summer term. Regarding the Trustees issue, the D wrote:
"(H)e briefly addressed the recent debate over the actions of the Board of Trustees, expressing his support for the board’s recent revisions. Wright admonished those alumni who have sought legal action against the College and have drawn students into the controversy."
And finally, with no school yesterday I carted a certain 8th grader and his 10th-grade sister over to Lebanon yesterday for a matinee of the football movie The Game Plan, which features a couple of former Dartmouth players named Brian in the cast: Brian White '95 and Brian Mann '02. Unfortunately, the newspaper had it wrong and despite the holiday, there was no matinee. Green Alert will keep me busy until Sunday so hopefully the flick will be around until then. ... Looking through stills from the movie, I found this solo picture of Brian White and a number of group shots. ... Couldn't pick out Brian Mann in any of the group shots, however.
