Casey is in the news after the Titans took tight end Craig Stevens, a three-time, All-Pac 10 pick at Cal, in the third round of last week's NFL draft. The Nashville City Paper writes that Stevens:
" ... will likely have to battle with Dwayne Blakley, Casey Cramer and Jamie Petrowski for his playing time early on."The Dartmouth football web site has a little promotional piece up on Saturday's Green-White scrimmage here.
There's a piece up on the Colgate web site rounding up spring practice and coach Dick Biddle, a man of relatively few words, sounds comfortable with his team. Said Biddle:
Heading into fall camp, some questions still remain to be answered. The back-up QB position is still up for grabs as are some of the linebacker positions.Backup QB and some linebacker slots? Must be nice. ...
I learned yesterday that there will be no admission for baseball's best-of-three Ivy League Championship Series between Dartmouth and Columbia this weekend. The Big Green plays host to the Lions for two nine-inning games starting at noon Saturday, with a potential deciding game on Sunday. If you are coming in for football, it's just a long spiral from Memorial Field to Red Rolfe Field. See you there!
The Daily Princetonian has a followup on the 67-year-old Princeton alum after his first tryout for Major League Lacrosse. He's now looking to try out for another team. I still don't know what to make of this story.
This is kind of funny. I got an email the other day asking if I had seen my name in Bill Reynolds' book on Bob Cousy. I hadn't. The notes for the book apparently say: "Background on Doggie Julian comes from newspaper stories in the Valley News (Hanover, NH) by Bruce Wood." Doggie Julian, of course, was the legendary basketball coach at Dartmouth. I'm assuming Bill got hold of a big story I did with Lee Julian on the 50th anniversary of Doggie leading Holy Cross to the NCAA championship. ... Somewhere I've got a collection of a bunch of books that the authors, for one reason or another, tossed my name into. Kind of goofy? I guess. But I'll still keep an eye out for a copy of Cousy: his life, career, and the birth of big-time basketball at used book sales. ;-)
And finally this: ... That certain Hanover High sophomore catcher's softball team won its first game yesterday. Her 8th grade brother, also a catcher, has his first baseball game this afternoon. My Green Machine Little League team opens play Saturday morning, but I'll miss the game to cover Dartmouth's Green-White scrimmage.
