And The Verdict Is ...

This poll wasn't really a surprise to me and I agree with the overwhelming majority. There's something about working so hard for eight months only to have your championship hopes severely damaged with an Ivy League loss on the very first Saturday of the season that seems wrong.

Thanks to a regular reader for this link to news that Mike Tree, a 6-1, 216 defensive end for Brophy Prep in Phoenix, has received "offers" from Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia and Air Force. Brophy Prep, of course, is the Arizona powerhouse that has sent sophomore center Shane Peterlin and freshman offensive lineman Brock Middleton to Hanover the past two years.

While Dartmouth and Harvard have to wait until Sept. 12 for their scrimmage, Princeton and Yale got it on yesterday in the Garden State. Yale sports information has a report here.

If you've got Sirius radio you can tune in to three Dartmouth football games this fall on Sirius 130. The Big Green's contests against Penn on Oct. 4, Yale on Oct. 11 and Brown on Nov. 14 will all be carried on the satellite system. The complete Ivy League schedule:
  • Sept. 19 — Holy Cross at Harvard, 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 20 — Princeton at The Citadel, 1 p.m.
  • Sept. 27 — Harvard at Brown, 12:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 4 — Dartmouth at Penn, Noon
  • Oct. 11 — Yale at Dartmouth, 12:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 18 — Columbia at Penn, 1 p.m.
  • Oct. 25 — Cornell at Brown, 12:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 1 — Princeton at Cornell, 1 p.m.
  • Nov. 7 — Penn at Princeton, 7 p.m.
  • Nov. 8 — Columbia at Harvard, Noon
  • Nov. 15 — Brown at Dartmouth, 12:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 22 — Yale at Harvard, Noon
I'm not quite sure how/why a quote from Jay Fiedler ended up in the middle of this story from the Fergus Falls (Minn.) Daily Journal, but there you are. In a discussion of healthier snacks and drinks at a local school, Fiedler says, "Through their programs and convenient distribution methods, school wellness programs can provide health conscious individuals with the nutrition they need around the clock."
