Catch The Action

This is a Dartmouth football ad that will run on the side of some of the Upper Valley's Advance Transit buses this fall. Kudos to Sam Hopkins, Dartmouth's associate director for marketing and promotions for helping get Big Green football in the public eye. Click to enlarge the picture and you'll see it's senior wide receiver Eric Paul making the grab.

This is only my mockup of how the photo might be used. Today's trivia: The name Advance Transit was the brainchild of former Dartmouth golf coach Bill Johnson, whose suggestion for the service was selected in a contest.

Speaking of wide receivers from Texas, Rivals.com is reporting that Drew Coleman, a 5-10, 165 senior from Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas, has had "offers" from Dartmouth and Army. There's game video of him on the same site. ... For a "combine" video of the 4.4 runner, click here.

Another high school senior who is on Dartmouth's radar is Kyle Toulouse of Yorktown High School in Virginia. The Arlington Connection has a story that says he'll probably play some quarterback, wide receiver, running back, fullback, safety, corner, punter, punt returner and kick returner this fall. (No word if he'll be in the marching band.) The story says, "He’s received interest from Dartmouth, Columbia, Temple, and Holy Cross for football and George Washington, VMI, George Mason, and Charlotte for baseball." For an action photo of Toulouse, click here. ... For a video interview with the well-spoken athlete from his summer traveling baseball team, click here.

Expect a few stories or anecdotes about Casey Cramer out of Miami in weeks to come when the Dolphins' media discovers him. For now, just a line in the Orlando Sentinel that Miami coach Tony "Sparano's only explanation for cutting FB Boomer Grigsby was that newly acquired FB Casey Cramer does "a few more jobs."

That certain Hanover High junior's cross country team had its first home meet yesterday. She was one of five teammates that crossed the line together at the front of the pack. The local newspaper had a big picture of the boys' race and a postage stamp-sized "refer" photo of the five girls on the front page. Although she was about the size of a large ant in the photo, that certain junior got a kick out of the picture. ... That certain freshman, meanwhile, came home from football practice quite excited yesterday after recovering an onside kick. When you are on the "scout team," you take your victories where you can find them ;-)
