Wrapping Up Saturday

The Boston Globe staffed the Harvard-Dartmouth game here. ...

Elsewhere, Brown struggled but held off Penn in a battle at the top of the Ivy League standings while Columbia came tumbling back to the earth at Yale. The roundup:

Brown 34, Penn 27
Four more TD passes for Brown QB Michael Dougherty.

Princeton 31, Cornell 26
Next on tap for Dartmouth: trying to contain Big Red quarterback Nathan Ford, who completed 33-of-55 passes for 431 yards against the Tigers, who got 169 yards rushing from Ivy League leader Jordan Culbreath.

Yale 27, Columbia 12
Columbia has a 316-269 advantage in yards but suffers three turnovers and a blocked punt.

Colgate 21, Lafayette 13
Jordan Scott, meet Wally Pipp. Patriot League all-time run leader returns to action with two carries while freshman replacement Nate Eachus runs 34 time for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a key Patriot League showdown.

New Hampshire 45, Hofstra 25
UNH has just 12 first downs and 278 yards but benefits from two interceptions for touchdowns.

Holy Cross 34, Bucknell 17
Dominic Randolph goes 38-for-49 for 398 yards through the air.

... And finally, the Internet is down on the mountain, of course, so this is coming to you live and in color from the Courtyard Cafe at Dartmouth. ...

That certain Hanover High School junior wasn't particularly happy with her run yesterday but it was still enough to her team away with the New Hampshire Meet of Champions championship down in Nashua. The meet featured the top six cross country teams from each division of last week's state championship. (Hanover is the middle division.) Next on tap: The New England Championships, slated for Saturday in Manchester, NH. It sounds as if Glastonbury, Conn., may be the team Hanover will have to hold off to repeat last year's title.

With winter just around the corner – there was ice this morning on a wee pond I pass by on my way into town – progress continues at a fast pace on Dartmouth's new baseball stadium. (It's not officially called a "stadium," but a certain Hanover High School freshman , when walking past it yesterday: "It's just like a small minor league stadium.") If everything continues as planned, the installation of seats could begin as early as tomorrow. (click photos to supersize)
