Jacksonville Jaguars defensive assistant Tom Williams has accepted the job as Yale football coach, according to a source familiar with the search.Find a Yale Daily News story here.
Williams, 39, who will be officially announced at a 2 p.m. press conference Wednesday at the Ray Tompkins House, is the first black head coach in Yale football history.
Green Alert Take: Conventional wisdom would be that Williams is something of a high-risk, high-reward choice in New Haven. His NFL background and history at Stanford as a player and a coach go on one side of the ledger. He kicked 25% of his kickoffs THROUGH the uprights! 95% of his kickoffs were touchbacks. He was a perfect 10 for 10 under 40 yards. But I hear he is coming to Dartmouth to play lacrosse. Would someone please call Teevens and ask his to invite the kid out."
