Not much news out of the first Ivy League weekly football teleconference.
Perhaps of most interest: Yale coach Tom Williams said he's starting Nebraska transfer Patrick Witt at quarterback, Harvard coach Tim Murphy confirmed Collier Winters as his starter and Brown coach Phil Estes spoke about his confidence in new junior QB Kyle Newhall-Caballero.
Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens talked about attitudinal and athletic differences in Hanover while conceding the Big Green is still young. He repeated that important lessons were learned in last week's preseason game against Harvard.
Princeton coach Roger Hughes joked that he was starting to think he might be eating Thanksgiving turkey before the Ivies finally got playing. Each of the coaches who were asked about the late start to the season agreed they wish that could be changed.
Harvard coach Tim Murphy talked about how his team has a bull's eye on its back – and front – and so the Crimson has to bring its best game to the field every game.
Tom Williams downplayed the idea that being Yale's first black head football coach was any kind of distraction. He said the bigger story is that he's just the third head coach in New Haven in 45 years.
An MP3 of the conference will be posted on the Ivy League website "when it is available."
