Tiger Town = Title Town

Buckle your seatbelts Ivy League fans, because unless you are a Princeton fan or have been paying a lot of attention this may throw you for a loop. Over the weekend the New Jersey Juggernaut won five Ivy League championships. That's right. Five.

In a span of 19 hours, as Tiger Blog tells us, Princeton won titles in women's swimming, men's and women's indoor track (at Dartmouth) and men's and women's fencing. Princeton will look to add the men's swimming tournament this weekend when it hosts the event, and almost certainly will add the women's basketball championship this weekend.

Speaking of Princeton women's basketball, former Dartmouth standout and assistant coach Courtney Banghart has the Tigers at 23-2 overall (11-0 Ivy League) with an 18-game winning streak. Princeton hasn't lost since Dec. 5, and the two losses were hardly a disgrace. The Tigers fell at UCLA, 69-59, and to Rutgers, 60-50.

Here's the kicker: Courtney has all five starters and her top seven scorers overall back next winter. Princeton will graduate just two players.

While we're on the subject of former Dartmouth assistants, Mike Maker's second Williams College men's basketball team wrapped up the NESCAC tournament title yesterday with a 64-56 win over Middlebury. The Ephs are ranked No. 2 in the nation with a 26-1 record and have earned a bye in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

While it's been a rough winter in Hanover, the Dartmouth ski team sewed up a second consecutive undefeated carnival season by winning at Middlebury over the weekend. (link)

The Daily Dartmouth has a preview of the spring season for Big Green teams. The defending Ivy League championship baseball team, by the way, will face No. 1 Virginia on Saturday.

And finally, if you wonder why the very successful University of New Hampshire football program feels the need to upgrade its stadium, check out this video from James Madison. While the Club Seat thing certainly seems over the top for anything short of an NFL team, it's hard to imagine how UNH can compete against league rivals who are going off in this direction.
