Houston QB Going Green

Another morning, another recruit. This time it is Jordan Are', a 6-foot-2, 197-pound quarterback from Alief Taylor HS in Houston. His commitment is reported on the Yahoo Rivals site.

Last season Are' was 153-of-269 (56.9 percent) for 2,294 yards with 13 touchdowns. He had 250 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns according to his page on this site that reports his commitment.

Are' was an 18-5A all-star quarterback selection and player of the year according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. He was academic all-district while setting school single-season and career passing records and made the Houston 100: Top football recruits. According to this Rivals page he had offers from Harvard, Texas Southern, Towson and Bryant.

His senior highlight video is here.

Find a junior highlight video for Jordan Are' here. Scout.com has a junior evaluation of Are' here. From that evaluation: "He projects at multiple positions, he can play quarterback but needs some refining at this point."

There's a blurb about Are' being "actively" recruited by Dartmouth and Harvard here and a Houston Chronicle story BGA linked to earlier here under the headline, "Ivy League football recruiting a complex game." Interestingly, both of the players in the top of the story – Are' and lineman Scotty Whitmore – are headed to Hanover.

There's a quick Houston TV "star of the week" presentation to Jordan Are' here.
