Going Deep

Following up on last week's note about top returning rushers in the nation, here are the top deep receivers in the nation from last fall, ranked by yards per catch.

In addition to ranking second nationally, Dartmouth's Michael Reilly tied tight end John Gallagher for the Big Green lead in TD catches with three. Among the Big Green receivers with double-digit catches a year ago Tanner Scott was second at 14.7 yards per reception, with Tim McManus third at 13.9. Gallagher averaged 8.3.

By the way, if you missed the video and story (below) about incoming freshman defensive back Bennie Niles take the time to check them out. Even if he doesn't see a minute on the field – and he should because he's a highly regarded recruit – he will be an asset to the school.

The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team saw its season end with a 10-7 loss to Albany yesterday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the only blemish on the home slate all year.

The rich get richer. From the Ivy League web page:
The (women's rowing championship) is also a monumental one for Princeton University, as the victory gives Princeton its 15th Ivy League title for the 2010-11 academic year. No program has ever won more than 14 in any academic year.

The Boston Globe's New England Summer Travel series looked at New Hampshire and Hanover was one of the destinations in the spotlight. Here's part of what it had to say about our fair town:
WHY GO Home of Dartmouth College, the most outdoorsy of the Ivies, Hanover has the trappings of an idyllic New England summer getaway – with diversions, dining, and lodging to suit sophisticated travelers. By day, you can swim or paddle the Connecticut River, hike a section of the Appalachian Trail, and play 18 holes – or send your kid to golf camp – at Hanover Country Club. At night, you can eat a superb locally sourced meal, watch an indie film, and sleep in urbane comfort.
