Just Football

Had a nice chat late last week with filmmaker Erik Greenberg Anjou, who just-so-happened to play a little nose guard at Middlebury a few years back. With the football season approaching, Erik and author Mark Bernstein have started to ratchet up efforts to promote their film, 8 Ivy League Football and America. You've gotta like their catchphrase:
"No boosters. No agents. No illegal benefits. No tattoo shops. Just football."
Find the 8 Ivy League Football and America website here, and keep your eye out for some live content on the site this fall including something by a Certain Pair of Ivy League Bloggers.

In addition to former jayvee quarterback Sean Furey, Dartmouth football will be represented by another former player at the track world championships in Korea in September.

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Adam Nelson '97, the first Dartmouth freshman to appear in a varsity game after freshman eligibility was restored in the Ivy League, won the gold medal in the shot put at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oregon. The Los Angeles Times has a story that includes this:
Nelson, who will be 36 in July and has mulled retirement, says he feels rejuvenated enough to shoot for two goals that have eluded him: a world record and an Olympic gold medal.

Nelson's Wikipedia bio correctly states that he began his football career as a linebacker and then switched to defensive tackle. What it doesn't tell you is that after playing mainly special teams as a freshman he posted 22 tackles as a sophomore before being lost to a knee injury against Brown. He added 18 stops as a junior and another 18 in his final season.

Find Nelson's USA T&F bio here.

Putting the wraps on a couple of projects today (hopefully) and that will free me up to dig back into my notes from the Friends of Football meeting and get you a few tidbits from the comments of offensive coordinator Keith Clark and defensive coordinator Don Dobes over the next couple of days. Promised 'em last week and things just backed up on me.

We had a good trip to the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship in Connecticut yesterday. Maybe if we go again next year we'll remember to park on the street rather than spend an hour or so in the grass parking lot trying to get back on the road.
