O'Neill Preseason All-America

Exactly 100 days until the opener against Colgate ...
*
Dartmouth's Ryan O'Neill, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound senior who started all 10 games at left guard last fall, has been named to the preseason All-America second team by Lindy's Magazine. Penn defensive lineman Brandon Copeland is the only other Ivy Leaguer to get mention and like O'Neill was a second-team pick. Colgate's Nate Eachus was a first-team selection at running back while the Gate's Vittorio Ottanelli joined O'Neill on the second offensive line. (O'Neill photo courtesy of Dartmouth.)

Of interest in the Lindy's Top 25:
8. New Hampshire
20. Penn
23. Colgate

The Oklahoman newspaper has a quick piece with former Sooner standout and first-year Dartmouth defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux regarding what should happen in the aftermath of USC being stripped of the 2004 NCAA title. From the story:
Thibodeaux helped lead the Sooners to three Big 12 titles and four trips to BCS bowl games, including two national championship games. He signed with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League but was cut following two preseason games.

Thibodeaux is focused on his new job, defensive line coach at Dartmouth after coaching at a junior college last season.
Today's trivia question: Who was Thibodeaux battling for a position on the Calgary Stampeders?

If you answered Dartmouth's Anthony Gargiulo, give yourself a pat on the back. Gargiulo, of course, made the team only to see his football career ended by a widely criticized cheap shot (video) that severely broke his ankle.

No information on when and where you might be able to see this, but check out the trailer for the movie Running Through: The Jordan Culbreath Story. The movie asks the question, What would you do if your world changed overnight? Culbreath, of course, is the former Princeton running back standout who returned to football last fall after being diagnosed with aplastic anemia.

And finally, That Certain Hanover High Grad came home yesterday ... and started work this morning. Not much of a break there. We celebrated her homecoming last night with a dinner at the Baited Hook, a little fish-and-fries place on nearby Mascoma Lake. If you are in the area on a hot summer night it's well worth the short drive out to grab a dinner on the deck looking over the lake. Or to join the folks who stop by on party boats and enjoy one of their oversized ice cream cones. Photo
