More On Penn At Night

The morning daily has a staff report about the Dartmouth-Penn game being played at night. The only new information shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has been following developments but is still kind of juicy. Sports publicity director Rick Bender quoted in the paper:
"Dartmouth provided Penn an incentive; not unlike the incentives Dartmouth often accepts to play elsewhere."
Whether those other incentives are ever for football is a question left hanging in the air.

There's a brief story on the Penn football page.

Game One opponent Colgate, which visits Memorial Field on Sept. 17, opens camp on Monday. The Raiders kick off the 2011 season on Sept. 3 against Albany. link

Something called Optimum Scouting has a preseason All-Ivy League team that features seven Dartmouth players on the first team including defensive end Clayton McGrath. Only problem is McGrath goes to Brown ;-)

The Optimum team is linked to on an Ivy League page that also has a collection of links to the various other All-Ivy preseason pages and predictions. Find that Ivy page here.

Five years of FCS eligibility? It's being bandied about – but don't look for it to be considered in these parts. From a story by The Sports Network:
Reaching a majority doesn't seem like that large of an obstacle - of the eight conference commissioners available for comment, only Ivy League commissioner Robin Harris and Patriot League commissioner Carolyn Femovich were openly opposed to the idea.

"I would be surprised that even if it became an NCAA rule, that's not something our league would be interested in," Harris said. "It's just not something we're going to be supportive of."

The Sports Network also has a piece about the possibility of expanding the FCS playoff field. Green Alert Take: I'm a little tired this morning so insert your own pithy comment about how unfair it is that every sport in the Ivy League can play in the postseason except for football and how much lack of believe it shows in football players the schools choose to admit.

Chad Kackert, the former University of New Hampshire speedster who Dartmouth never really got much of a look at because of injuries and lopsided scores, was the Canadian Football League offensive player of the week after carrying 20 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns for the Toronto Argonauts.

Zipping down I-91 today to catch former linebacker Gordy Quist '02 and The Band of Heathens show tonight in Northampton, Mass. Sitting in with the Heathens as he often does is former corner Trevor Nealon '02. Word is TBoH, performing on Austin City Limits in the video below, will be cruising through Hanover today and may even get a little tour of the new facilities on the way to their latest gig.

That's Gordy leading off in this video of the song Jackson Station:
