The innovative Cornell football website has a short and impressive video promoting Homecoming in Ithaca, which will be the weekend of the opening game against Bucknell.

Green Alert Take: Even if you aren't an alum this may make you want to go back;-)

Dartmouth may be playing under the lights at Harvard Stadium, but the early focus in Cambridge is on another game. From a Crimson story about the top five sports Harvard sports events this fall:
“The Game” may get all the hype, but if the past two seasons are any indication, the Harvard-Penn matchup will be the one that decides who takes home the Ivy League title. This year appears to be no different . . .

Speaking of Harvard, the marketing folks down there are doing what they can to drum up student support. From the school website:
Throughout the year, students will “swipe” their HUID cards at the Student Rewards Featured Games to instantly receive $1 in Crimson Cash, which is accepted throughout Harvard Square businesses.

Also, every HUID swipe will enter students into a season-long grand prize raffle . . .

This week's FCS poll by The Sports Network has four Ivy League schools and one other Dartmouth opponent receiving votes:
27. Penn
34. Colgate
36. Harvard
52. Yale
53. Brown

Game notes for the ridiculously early Patriot League showdown between Dartmouth opponents Holy Cross and Colgate Saturday have been posted at the Holy Cross site. How big is the game? In 25 years of Patriot League football no team with two losses has ever won the title. That means, of course, that whoever drops Saturday's game in Worcester pretty much has to run the table to have any shot at grabbing a share of the crown. In 25 years of the Patriot League the champion has been unbeaten 16 times and lost one game nine times.

In case you were wondering, it has happened just two times in 55 seasons of formal Ivy League player that a team with two losses has earned a share of the title, and both times Dartmouth was involved.

In 1982 Dartmouth, Harvard and Penn were tri-champions at 5-2. And in 1963 Dartmouth and Princeton were co-champions at 5-2.

That highlights the importance of the Oct. 1 night game against Penn on Memorial Field. History suggests the loser of that game will probably have to run the Ivy League table – and still need the winner to stumble. Granted, this is one of those years when it looks as if it could be a two-loss champion, but that's not something you want to have to count on.

Ivy League Champions' Records
7-0 – 19 times
6-1 – 29 times
6-0-1 – 2 times
5-1-1 – 3 times
5-2 – 2 times
