That said, yesterday's Gang Green posting featured some interesting Dartmouth (and Ivy League) content under the headline: Linsanity: NFL Ivy League Prospects & You! While admitting he's not exactly an expert on Ivy League football, the writer offers up capsule looks at which Ivy Leaguer the Jets might want, if the Jets wanted to bring an Ivy Leaguer to the Big Apple, a la Jeremy Lin. Got it?
The list, in the order presented:
- Columbia offensive tackle Jeff Adams
- Harvard defensive end Josue Ortiz
- Dartmouth corner Shawn Abuhoff
- Brown linebacker Daniel Smithwick
- Yale quarterback Pat Witt
- Dartmouth tailback Nick Schiewger
- Penn offensive tackle Greg Van Roten
- Harvard corner Matthew Hanson
- Dartmouth tight end John Gallagher
- Cornell kicker Brad Greenway
"Dartmouth don't produce a ton of talented football players but they may well produce one this year with Shawn Abuhoff receiving rave reviews through the season."Schwieger's piece starts:
"Nick Schwieger the Dartmouth tailback is also worth taking a look at, a 5-10, 210lb first team all ivy league selection for the third year running."And Gallagher:
"We need a tight end on this list, so I'm going with a guy who by all accounts is a great blocker who has reliable if not often used hands."The writer suggests Adams, Ortiz and Witt have the best chance of garnering real interest from NFL teams.

The New Haven Register has a lengthy story (and short video) with new Yale coach Tony Reno. It includes this about the former Harvard assistant hiring away three Crimson coaches:There’s been some chatter of Reno’s raiding of the Harvard staff causing some friction between him and Murphy, a coach he credits for helping get him ready for his first head coaching job. Reno said that is not the case.
“Not with me,” Reno said. “I went through the proper channels and told him I’d like to talk to them. They are all getting promotions, and I think he understands that. I’m fine with Tim; he’s been (great). I chose to aim high and see what happens, they could say no, but I’ve been fortunate.”

Rough day on the Big Green sports scene yesterday. Men's basketball (4-20, 0-8 Ivy League) lost a heartbreaker to Penn (13-11, 5-2) when Zack Rosen nailed a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining at the Palestra to give the Quakers a 58-55 win. The shorthanded Dartmouth women's basketball team (3-18, 1-6) took Penn (9-12, 2-5) to overtime before dropping a 73-63 decision. The men's ice hockey team (9-12-4, 6-9-3 ECAC) fell to RPI (8-19-3, 5-10-3) at Thompson Arena and the 10th-ranked women's team (16-8-2, 12-6-2) dropped to fifth in the ECAC with a 4-2 loss at RPI (9-19-4, 6-12-2).
