Back At It

Another one of those mornings that sent me scurrying back in the house for my camera. (Click to enlarge – it's worth it ;-)


Football practice resumes late this afternoon. Check BGA Premium tonight for a recap of today's action as well as an overview of the past several days.
Score a couple of national championships for the Big Green. The Daily Dartmouth writes about the  fencing club capturing nationals over 40 schools. (Dartmouth does not field a varsity fencing team.)

And US Figure Skating writes about the Big Green club winning the US Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championship last weekend over a field of more than 35 teams.

Ironically, in the same week that Forbes magazine has a story about the University of Florida eliminating its computer science department (while increasing its athletic budget) the Brown Daily Herald has a lengthy story headlined Athletes struggle against ‘dumb jock’ stereotype. Yesterday the Daily Herald had a story about two-sport athletes that focused in part on John Spooney, a football running back/sprinter (not surprisingly the fastest man in the Ivy League) and neuroscience concentrator who wants to be a doctor.


Former linebacker Gordy Quist '02 fronts the Band of Heathens as they perform their single Medicine Man at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis. Gordy starts the song up at the :54 mark. The Heathens are in Milwaukee tonight, Minneapolis tomorrow and Chicago Friday as part of their current tour. Stop by and tell 'em Green Alert sent you ;-)
