Draft Nix?

Rounds 2-3 of the NFL draft are on tap tonight but things get interesting for Ivy League fans tomorrow when rounds 4-7 are held, starting at noon. Columbia offensive tackle Jeff Adams would seem to have the best chance of any Ivy Leaguer to hear his name called. Find the 6-foot-6, 298-pounder's  Pro Football Weekly page here. Other Ivy Leaguers who get a mention by PFW are Yale quarterback Patrick Witt ("Thinks he’s better than he is and could rub teammates the wrong way"), Harvard defensive lineman Josue Ortiz ("put himself on the NFL radar with an impressive pro day, including a rare 38½-inch vertical leap and a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump that bested all defensive linemen and linebackers at the Combine"), Penn tight end Luke Nawrocki, Penn linebacker Erik Rask, Brown receiver Alexander Tounkara and Cornell kicker Brad Greenway.

Tailback Nick Schwieger and corner Shawn Abuhoff, Dartmouth's leading contenders to end up in a pro camp, are not mentioned.
Also among Ivy Leaguers hoping to play for pay is Harvard quarterback Collier Winters. The Harvard Crimson writes about the challenges he faces at 5-foot-11. ... One of the better players Dartmouth faced in its nonconference schedule also has his name out there. Sacred Heart tight end/split end Rich Rossi is the subject of this video that shows his TD catch in a college all-star game from just about every imaginable angle.
While the odds are against more than one or two Ivy Leaguers making onto an NFL roster next year there are other options. American football obviously isn't big in Europe, but a year or two playing the game on the continent sounds like fun. Check out the blog being kept by Columbia's Alex Gross for a taste of playing and living overseas. Be sure to scroll down and read about some of his non-football adventures.
There's no lack of optimism in Ithaca where the Cornell Sun writes:
After Saturday’s scrimmage, the Red will enter arguably its most anticipated offseason of this century as it returns 17 of 22 starters from 2011, making the team a formidable competitor for the Ivy League crown.
The Columbia football team is doing a Jacked 4 Jaclyn Liftathon today to support the fight against pediatric brain tumors.
Meant to mention this yesterday. They probably won't be posting a funny video after Dartmouth graduation this year but I know at least one Dartmouth student who will be riveted to the main speaker. Giving the commencement address will be Wendy Kopp, Founder and CEO of Teach for America and a 1989 Princeton grad.
Dartmouth concludes the third week of spring football practice tomorrow. Check BGA Premium tomorrow night for full coverage.
