This And That

Cooper the Wonder Dog and I headed out our back door and without crossing a road were on the South Peak of Moose Mountain about an hour later on a gorgeous afternoon earlier this week. Woke up to another dusting of snow this morning here on the shoulder of the mountain. (Click the pic to enlarge it.)

Rising senior tailback Greg Patton, who has alternated injury with brilliance during his Dartmouth career, underwent surgery this week and will miss spring practice. He is expected back for the fall.
In case you are wondering, Dartmouth's weekday practices during the spring are set for 4:45 with Saturday sessions at 9:45. The allotted 12 practices begin next Tuesday and go Tues-Thursday-Saturday (except for Friday, April 13 in place of Saturday, April 14) until the spring game on May 5 during Freshman Parents Weekend. As always, the schedule is subject to change.
Time will tell but a Dartmouth commit who changed his mind and was set for a scholarship school is not listed with the other freshmen on that school's 2012 roster and whispers are that he could end up in Hanover after all.
New Columbia coach Pete Mangurian had a reputation as a straight shooter when he ran the show at Cornell and the blog he's been writing since taking over in New York City shows he hasn't changed. There's something refreshing about a coach who tells it like it is.
Football Scoop writes that CBS Sports is reporting Hofstra AD Jack Hayes will be the new athletic director at Brown. The New York Times blog The Quad did a Q&A with Hayes after Hofstra dropped football in 2009. An earlier report listed Hayes and Anucha Browne Sanders – a name you might remember from when she worked in the front office of the New York Knicks – as the finalists once Dartmouth alum Dan Gavitt '88 was out of the picture.
And finally, Dartmouth produced a very slick video announcing the naming of the Geisel School of Medicine.
