Recognize This Guy?

The HTML email from our local Howe Library popped up this morning and given that the lead article was about graphic novels I almost tossed it. In the end I decided to scan down to see what else it had to offer and down near the bottom of the page a little photo accompanying a blurb about the My Favorite Book Photo Project caught my attention. (See the full page here.)

The blurb notes that in February of this year three dozen prominent community members were brought to the library to have photos taken with their favorite books. Turns out one of those community members happened to be Dartmouth football coach Buddy Teevens with his favorite book, Empire Of The Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne.

You can see the Teevens' portrait here. The caption to the photo reads this way:
Name: Buddy Teevens
Book: Empire Of The Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne

Why did you choose this book as your favorite book?

Loved the history of the Comanche people - I'm an old Dartmouth History major - Enjoyed History of the Old West with Prof. Jim Wright.

It doesn't happen often that the Be The Match bone marrow registry has a "hit" – just one in 80,000 – but when it does it can save a life. The Brown football program has been involved in Be The Match for several years and had a hit this spring in safety Matt Shannon.  The junior-to-be has undergone medical testing and interviews and is ready to be a hero. He told a no-doubt proud Brown Bear Blogger:

"I have a chance to save a life this summer. When you have that chance to make such an impact on someone's life, you have to step up to the plate."
