FB News Heating Up

The Ivy League football media teleconference is slated for 11 a.m. today and there will be an update to the blog this afternoon with a few details.
The Dartmouth newspaper has a story about new wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton, who spent four of his six years in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars. From The D has this quote from Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens:
"One of the things that struck me right off the bat is that he’s not just a NFL guy, but he went through with discipline, and he understands the academic component. Adjusting to an Ivy League environment won’t be so radical for someone with his background.”
It's no fun posting this stuff but the local daily has a story this morning noting that for the second year in a row a Dartmouth quarterback has found himself in legal hot water as Alex Park was charged with underage possession of beer. The story quotes Athletic Director Harry Sheehy as saying the sophomore QB "has been subjected to 'disciplinary actions.' "

The Sports Illustrated website has a story about the previously announced commitment of a top-100 basketball recruit to Harvard that suggests 6-foot-9 Zena Edosomwan would be a top-50 players this year out of Northfield Mount Hermon, where he will spend a year to qualify for admission. The Harvard-Westlake graduate had this to say about choosing to play at Harvard under coach Tommy Amaker:

"Four years from now, when no one cares who Zena Edosomwan is, I know a lot of opportunities will be there for me to be successful on and off the court. And on top of that, why go for the average college experience when I could do something special that people remember me by? If I become successful, people will remember that I took that chance, that I had a higher purpose than basketball."
That's terrific stuff.

What struck me was this editorial comment from the writer: ". . . (T)he Crimson have aimed uncharacteristically high under Amaker . . ."

Where else but in sports would someone ever write that Harvard was aiming "uncharacteristically high?" Think about that.
