A Peek Behind The Curtain

The New Haven Register's Portal 31 blog has a little information from Yale coach Tony Reno about the Bulldog scrimmage with Brown. From Portal 31:

Tony said the biggest strengths were in the running game, offensive line and defensive line. RBs Mordecai Cargill and Tyler Varga both busted off runs of around 60 yards.
As for the QB situation, it’s down to junior John Whitelaw and freshman Eric Williams. The starter will be named following the team’s final intrasquad scrimmage later this week.
“It’s pretty even,” Reno said. “Neither has quite grabbed the job yet.”
No surprise that the Yale run game put up some good numbers. Cargill is a known commodity and Canadian freshman Varga's highlight reel is one of the more impressive you will see.

Interesting that the scrimmage was closed. In the past Yale actually had web recaps of its scrimmages and Brown's scrimmages with Dartmouth were "open."

Closed or not, there were some people there. Check it out.
Dartmouth's visit to Harvard tomorrow evening is closed to the media and the general populace. There will be reaction to the contest on BGA Premium at some point.
Week One opponent Butler (0-1) tunes up for the Sept. 15 game against Dartmouth with a game against Division III Franklin College on Saturday. Find the Butler game notes here. For what it is worth, Butler will not be a "night game newbie" against Dartmouth. The Franklin game will be the Bulldogs' first home contest under the lights since 1941.

By the way, Franklin, a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, fell to DIII powerhouse Mount Union, 45-7, in its opener. You just know some wiseguy is going to use the transitive score property to compare Dartmouth and the Ivy League to Division III after the Butler game.
Holy Cross (0-1) and Sacred Heart (0-1) have bye weeks.
