Here's how the latest Gridiron Power Index rates Ivy League teams. The GPI, remember, synthesizes one rating out of a number of different polls and computer rankings and is similar in that way to the BCS:
22. Harvard (24.43)
49. Princeton (42.29)
61. Cornell (51.29)
65T. Brown (54.14)
78. Dartmouth (62.86)
88. Penn (69.43)
98. Columbia (78.14)
106. Yale (81.43)
90. Butler (70.14)
93T. Sacred Heart (75.00)
101. Holy Cross (79.71)
The GPI reinforces the belief that Dartmouth's final four games this fall are against the toughest four teams on the schedule. Should be a good test!

In this video UMass football coach Charley Molnar showed a good sense of humor in revealing to a pair of walk-ons that they had earned scholarships. This is worth watching if for no other reason than to see how their teammates respond to the news. Good stuff.

The Dartmouth has a story about Tropical Storm Sandy, which so far has struck just a glancing blow in our area. The story includes this:
In light of the difficulties posed by Hurricane Sandy, the Admissions Office announced on its website that it will be flexible with its Nov. 1 early decision deadline and has asked students to contact the department if they are unable to submit applications by Nov. 5.
Up here on Moose Mountain we decided to stay on the side of the house away from the towering pines that were swaying mightily last night and woke to very little in the way of blowdowns. We haven't lost electricity . . . so far. We did have a tree about 15 inches in diameter fall across the road but the town crew took care of it. Our road was open when I went to the end of the driveway and surprisingly found the paper in the tube at 6:15.

There's a possibility of rain, thunder and lightning this afternoon, but we feel very fortunate. Barring something untoward, there will be a practice report tonight on BGA Premium.
