One of disadvantages of being in the newspaper business is that you are frequently working while other people are playing or watching. It wasn't until I switched to freelancing and started up Green Alert that I was finally able to coach my own kids.

 I coached That Certain Younger Hanover High Graduate for one year with the Green Machine baseball team and we were fortunate enough to win the championship that spring. I've stuck with the team ever since and because I would have to miss Sunday's fall ball practice to do Dartmouth jayvee football the "graduating seniors" from this year's team stopped by the Memorial Field press box at halftime Saturday to deliver this plaque recognizing our championship season. Pretty special stuff.

Mrs. BGA is back in town after going out to State College for Parents Weekend, which unfortunately coincided with football season. Turnabout is fair play because I missed Sophomore Parents Weekend at Dartmouth while I was working a golf tournament.

Speaking of That Certain Older Hanover High Graduate, she's in Wyoming these days as part of the college's Stretch Program. We got an email noting that on one of her rare days off she did a 14-plus mile hike at more than 10,000 feet elevation in the Beartooth Mountains. She got a kick remembering the photo here in the home office of BGA showing me bicycling over the Beartooth Highway (10,947 feet at the summit) on one of my cross country bicycle rides.
