Championship Day . . . Today

The Division I national championship game is Monday night, right? Um, yeah sorta. That's the BCS championship game as determined by the pollsters and rankers and the like.

The Division I national championship game as determined by a true playoff is actually today in Texas. Didn't know that, huh? From FootballScoop:
Hidden among a landscape of bowl games, NFL playoff games and the BCS National Championship lies an interesting match-up complete with contrasting styles, fired-up fan bases, gallons full of emotion with a trophy up for grabs. North Dakota State and Sam Houston State will stage a rematch in Frisco, Texas, for the FCS National Championship at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
If you watched the Fiesta Bowl closely the other night you might have seen a familiar face on the Oregon sidelines. Dartmouth junior Ryan Paganetti was in Glendale to watch the Oregon Ducks knock off Kansas State, 35-17. Paganetti, a running back who saw his career limited and then ended by injury,  had a terrific view of the action thanks to his brother TJ Paganetti, a former offensive tackle at Bedford High in Massachusetts, and now an offensive intern on the Oregon staff.
When Notre Dame and Alabama square off for the BCS title it will pit a couple of teams that claim 25 national championships between them. Among the titles are the 1924 championship Notre Dame claims over Penn and the 1925 title Alabama claims over Dartmouth. Sports Illustrated takes a look at the legitimacy of those claims.
