The schedule has Butler tuning up for its first FCS game against Dartmouth on Sept. 21 with contests against Wittenberg and Franklin in the preceding weeks.
Not sure quite why The Sports Network/Fox News posted the story (it's not on the school website) but opening-game opponent Butler will be playing six home games this fall and hasn't ruled out – even at this late date – adding a 12th game according to this report.
Wittenberg is a Division III team from Ohio that was 10-2 last fall. Franklin College of Indiana is another DIII team that went 9-3 a year ago – with a 42-13 loss to Butler.

Green Alert Take: Good for Butler upgrading its schedule by playing Dartmouth, but those Division III games are eyesores.

Columbia will have no fewer than 10 captains this fall according to this release. A wise person once suggested to me that if you have two No. 1 quarterbacks you have no No. 1 quarterback. By the same token, a cynic might suggest if you have 10 captains you have no captain. What's your take?

The blog comes to you today from Vermont's Jay Peak Resort, a couple of long gainers from the Canadian border. Mrs. BGA and That Certain Penn Stater are skiing here during his winter break. Your trusty correspondent, a born flatlander who prefers to hike up the mountain rather than ski down it, is working in the lodge all day.
