Dartmouth yesterday introduced new head coaches for two of its most successful and prominent programs.Belle Koclanes, a former Penn assistant and most recently an assistant coach at American University, has been named women's basketball coach. A former three-year captain at Richmond, Koclanes spent a year as director of basketball operations at Columbia and was on the staff at Old Dominion for three years. (link) She replaces Chris Wielgus
Chad Riley, a Dartmouth assistant for the past year and before that a player and coach under legendary former Dartmouth coach Bobby Clark at Notre Dame, has been named head coach of the Big Green men's soccer team. (link) He replaces Jeff Cook, who accepted a job in professional soccer.
The local daily has a story here.
Editor's Note: Although I fully appreciate that The Dartmouth is a volunteer effort, I find it astonishing that school paper did not have a word about either hiring in today's online edition. In fact, it has been more than a month since Chris Wielgus' tenure on the women's basketball bench ended after 28 years, 393 wins and 12 Ivy League titles, and there hasn't been a story about her departure yet.
