Sticking Around

The local daily has a story today about former defensive lineman Teddy Reed slimming down since the end of football season to play defense for the Dartmouth lacrosse team. Not sure if you can access it online without a subscription but if you can, it's here.

From the story:
“I had been in Dallas last summer, eating a lot of beef brisket, so just cutting my diet back helped a lot,” the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Reed said with a chuckle. “I stopped eating the plates of cheese my mom would offer me when I was at home and cut way back on carbohydrates. The weight I’ve lost is equal to a small child.”
Also this:
“It’s been interesting to go from starting every game in football for three years to not seeing much time in lacrosse,” said Reed, who hopes to land a job in New York City’s commercial real estate industry. “It’s definitely a different dynamic and it’s been humbling to be just kind of another guy, but it’s motivated me to work harder to try and get out there."
Reed was a decorated high school lacrosse player before deciding to concentrate on football at Dartmouth. Find his lacrosse bio here.

Dartmouth lax is 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the Ivy League heading into Saturday's challenging home contest against No. 9 Princeton, which is 7-3 with all three losses by a single goal against nationally ranked teams.

Families of potential recruits and visiting parents often send emails this way asking about places to eat and things to do when visiting the Upper Valley. Although it's directed at local families, a website pulled together by the wife of former Dartmouth kicking specialist Jason Lichtenstein '90 is also terrific resource for those coming to the area for a visit.

In addition to information on things like summer camps and volunteer opportunities, Mimi Lichtenstein's Welcome to Hanover, NH & Norwich, VT site has links and news about area dining and shopping options, museums, galleries, auctions, culture and much, much more. There's a calendar that includes a Dartmouth sports schedule and even a link to 100 Fun Things to Do in the Upper Valley.

The site is an incredible volunteer effort and well worth the visit. (There's even a link to local authors and blogs, including one you've occasionally visited, thank you very much ;-)
Did you see that Yale men's ice hockey won another overtime game last night in the Frozen Four and will be playing in the national championship game Saturday night in Pittsburgh? Ironically, the Bulldogs will be playing local rival Quinnipiac, which is just a little over 10 miles to the north of Yale. Find an AP story here.

Having a strong rooting interest in the game will be former Dartmouth football captains Kevin '72 '77 and Wayne Young '72. Yale junior defenseman Gus Young is the son of Kevin and nephew of Wayne, the longtime voice of Dartmouth football.
First it was CBS projecting Harvard as No. 21 in next year's NCAA men's basketball rankings. Now Sports Illustrated has chimed in and picked the Crimson No. 22. Whatever they are doing down in Cambridge seems to be working.
Someone with way too much time on his or her hands has made up The Complete Taxonomy of College Sports Mascots. It is billed by Adweek as "1100 Schools On One Incredible Poster."

If  you click on the poster on the website selling it for $30, you can find Dartmouth in the "colors" area at about 5:00 on the dial, just off the center.

Editor's Note: Ah, to be anywhere but in the colors category.
Interim Dartmouth President Carol Folt will be the next chancellor at the University of North Carolina. The Dartmouth has a story.
Speaking of presidents, a Certain Candidate for Student Body President called briefly last night and admitted the grind of the campaign is wearing her down. The Dartmouth covers another "debate" from yesterday.
