Another First For Lucas

Missed this last week. Former Dartmouth quarterback-turned-Miami Marlins infielder Ed Lucas '04 slammed his first big league home run Saturday while going 3-for-4 in a 2-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants. From a Marlins recap on MLB.com:
Lucas was able to receive the home run ball in exchange for an autographed bat.
"It was a great experience," Lucas said. "I wish it would have come in a winning effort. But a lot of firsts for me recently."
Ya think?

Lucas is batting .313 after 21 big league games. He has 25 hits in 80 at-bats with two doubles, the homer and six RBIs. He was 2-for-4 yesterday against the Twins. (season stats)
A concerned emailer sent a link to the Ivy League all-sports championships recently and expressed disappointment at what they showed after the Big Green failed to claim an Ivy League title this year.

Keep in mind, there's a lot more to judging success than a simple summary of championships won. As Athletic Director Harry Sheehy has said, you have to put yourself in position to win titles before you can start winning them. By that yardstick, the Big Green has been making progress.

On the other hand, there's no denying the straight championship numbers aren't pretty.

That said, here are the championships won by each Ivy League school during the four-year careers of this year's graduating seniors (and don't kill the messenger):
