Graduation Day

It's graduation day at Dartmouth and one of the student marshals is graduating linebacker-turned-rugby player Garrett Wymore.

From the caption on a Dartmouth photostream presentation of the marshals:
Wymore was linebacker for the Dartmouth football team for four years. He was also a study group leader and "resident expert" for the economics department. He studied in Barcelona through the Academy of Liberal and Beaux-Arts program. In the summer and fall, Wymore will coach his high school's football team while working at Bain & Company in San Francisco.
In addition to the seniors on this year's football team, kudos to former quarterback Brian Mann '02, who somehow found time between his duties first as director of football operations and now as assistant athletic director for external relations at the college, to earn his master's. He will be among the celebrants today.
It's astonishing to know that a year from now a Certain Hanover High Grad will be walking across that same stage.
That Certain Nittany Lion, by the way, was on the Green before 7 this morning on assignment reserving seats for some out-of-town visitors to graduation. Once they show up he'll be off to the golf course ;-)
After several messy days the weather should be fine for the ceremony today. Keep your fingers crossed that things come off without interruption . . . because there are some concerns and not about Mother Nature.
And finally, like the late, great Jean Shepherd's Christmas Story, Conan O'Brien's 2011 graduation address at Dartmouth will never get old and is worth watching at leat once a year. Watch and laugh:
