Practice Like Pros

You don't often see Mike Ditka and Buddy Teevens in the same sentence but there they are in a Boston Herald story about Practice Like Pros, an initiative founded by a former New Orleans Saints staffer with the goal of making football safer by making practices safer. From the story:
The Sports Legacy Institute estimates that, in high school football, 60%-to-75% of head trauma is suffered in practice, not in games. In the NFL, that number is virtually nil.
Practice Like Pros will hold a clinic explaining the tenets of, well, practicing like pros, on Aug. 10 in Worcester, Mass. Among those expected to attend are Ditka and Teevens. More from the story:
Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens will bring video of his Dartmouth Green-White spring game of 2012, played non-contact, while other college programs are being solicited to provide video of their non-contact practice drills.
The Yale sports information office has posted a position-by-position look at the 2013 Bulldogs. It does not mention two of the most intriguing players, transfer quarterback Morgan Roberts from Clemson and dynamic Chris Smith, an All-Ivy selection in 2011 both at wide receiver and as a return specialist before missing last season. While there have been no official announcements, both Roberts and Smith have been expected to be on the roster this year. Smith returned two kickoffs for touchdowns against Brown in 2010.

A prominent player who is mention in the story is Deon Randall, the Bulldogs' leading receiver in 2011 who missed last season.
New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica writes about the death of New York Giants punting legend Dave Jennings, mentioning that he had "a family place in Vermont, not so far from Dartmouth College." Jennings, who died of complications from Parkinson's, was a familiar presence around Hanover, working out at Memorial Field and even with local high schoolers while still an active player and occasionally showing up for the Friends of Dartmouth Football golf tournament. A good guy.
