Patriot Picks

Dartmouth is playing two Patriot League teams this fall and The Sports Network has capsules on both in its look at the conference. TSN picks Holy Cross to finish third and Bucknell to finish sixth and last (Fordham is ineligible for the title.)

The Sports Network predicts:

1. Colgate
2. Lehigh
3. Holy Cross
4. Lafayette
5. Georgetown
6. Bucknell
Fordham*

*Ineligible

From TSN regarding Holy Cross, which Dartmouth plays in Week 2:
The difficulty of the schedule lessens this season after the Crusaders couldn't keep up with one of the FCS' more demanding slates last season. Their run of seven straight winning seasons ended with a thud. But injuries also hit the team exceptionally hard, so many younger players were afforded playing experience, and that will pay off this season.
And:
Six . . . losses were by a touchdown or less last season, so they expect to be much improved with a healthier lineup.
Dartmouth knocked off Holy Cross last fall on a field goal at the gun, 13-10.

From TSN regarding Bucknell, which Dartmouth plays in Week 5:
The Bison took a step back last year after a 6-5 season in 2011, but they have a veteran team to get back on track this year. . . . The Bison could very well challenge for another winning season.
Ed Lucas
Wear Dartmouth gear to a Miami Marlins game and you stand a chance of having a conversation with, and getting a close-up picture of utility man and former Dartmouth jayvee quarterback Ed Lucas. Thanks to a regular reader from Kansas City for this photo.

Lucas, who started his big league career with a bang, has seen his batting average slip to .234 after going just 5-for-36 (.139) over his last 10 games. Find his MLB page here.
These are the dog days of summer for everyone, including NFL writers. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes about potential uniform changes for the Rams, and quoted throughout the piece is Kevin Demoff '99, a former radio voice (and writer) of Dartmouth football who just so happens to be the Executive Vice President of Football Operations & Chief Operating Officer of the Rams.

Demoff's right-hand man is former Dartmouth strong safety Tony Pastoors '10, the team's senior assistant of player personnel.

From a June Post-Dispatch story:
“Tony Pastoors does a great job of working with the agents ... working on the ones that ought to be negotiated,’’ Demoff said. “We’re gonna begin talking to them. ... And I expect they’ll all be done by the end of the month.”
Pastoors is a senior assistant to Demoff, and does much of the heavy lifting on getting draft picks signed.
