From early in the story:
His life is a continuous series of small, deliberate movements, a search for comfort and healing, an odyssey of maintenance and pain management. He does these things without complaint or assistance, because he understands that if he doesn't, his right leg will require amputation, and everything he has worked for his entire life will lose its meaning.Deeper in the story, this:
A month ago, a doctor at Dartmouth told him what he has heard many times before, what seems to be the majority opinion: Without some dramatic new innovation, his right leg will have to be removed. The only question is when. Or as Reggie puts it, "the option that has by far the most universal agreement is amputation of the leg. If anything in my current (rehab) fails, we're going to have to cut it off.
"The solution is some radical procedure that has not been identified yet," he says.Find the original Cincinnati Enquirer story with a selection of photos here. (Thanks for the link.)

The Bucknell preview will go up on BGA Premium tonight. The series will wrap up with looks at Butler tomorrow and Holy Cross Wednesday. Practice coverage begins Wednesday night and as always, the goal is to have the story posted by 10 p.m. Eastern. If you haven't yet subscribed to the premium site, don't delay. The 2012 subscriptions run out with the start of practice and if you fall behind before "re-upping" you may never catch up. Really.
Thanks to a little Googling around I can tell you last year's word count for BGA Premium was about the same as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets combined. (It was somewhat less of a commercial success, however ;-)
Now, if you add in the word count for the BGA blog . . . oh nevermind.
